For the first time both boys and girls from Las Vegas High Schools attended the HSPD Camp at the host school, Rancho HS. The girls exploded on the field with a burst of energy combined with poise. Right from the start they revealed their impressive passing and catching skills.
There were more than 60 girls and their coaches who attended. Green Valley had a strong presence followed by Chaparral. Canyon Springs, Desert Pines, and Rancho students also attended.
The girls competed right along with the boys and worked hard throughout the three day camp. Lots of new friends and relationships were made. On the final day of the camp the girls received a resounding round of applause from all of the boys. A great ending to a successful camp.
Although the girls were not able to compete in the 7 on 7 evaluation for a chance to make the Las Vegas team of 12, A Level Playing Field Foundation stepped up. The foundation gave its support to all of the girls who attended by having the HSPD coaches select 2 girls who exhibited exceptional athletic 7 on 7 skills on the field.
Adelia Sigala (Green Valley Flag Football team) and Kinsey Smyth (Boulder City Flag Football team ) were selected. Each winner will receive a five hundred dollar college scholarship to the school of their choice.
Congratulations to Adelia and Kinsey for your determination and hard work throughout the year. Keep it up!
